Pontic Kingdom. Mithradates VI, 120-63 BC. Gold Stater (8.26 g) minted in the type of Lysimachus, c. 88-86 BC at Kallatis. Head right of the deified Alexander the Great wearing the horn of Ammon above ear. Reverse: Athena Nikephoros enthroned left; mintmark on throne; beneath, trident. Cf. SNG Cop 1089; Müller 266. NGC graded Extremely Fine. Strike: 5/5; Surface: 3/5.
These gold staters were imitative of the earlier lifetime issues of Lysimachos, one of Alexander the Great's generals.
