Lot 241

Over 50 Signed Covers From The World of Music & Performing Arts 1928-30 Including John Philip Sousa. For a discriminating collector, over 50 signed commemorative covers by some of the greatest voices, dancers and performing artists, most especially artists of THE METROPOLITAN OPERA COMPANY in New York City. In fact the bulk are from the company and consist of almost all the performers, many who enjoyed significant recording contracts. Giulio Gatti-Casazza was the director (boldly signed cover) post WWI for over a decade and supervised numerous premiers and brought to the opera global acclaim. Too many to list but performers of the era have signed individual covers including Geraldine Farrar, conductor Arturo Bodansky, and a small few pieces signed by conductors of the new Chicago Civic Opera and New York Symphony. A full list can be sent on request. Overall the signatures are bold and in excellent condition, with many of the performers handwriting as grand and baroque as their voices. Also included is a wonderful signed cover by John Philip Sousa, one of the all time great composers of some 137 military and patriotic marches. Some covers do exhibit minor toning otherwise fine. Estimated Value $250-UP
