Lot 2239

1938-D Liberty Walking Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-65. Well struck and untoned. A famous photograph exists showing Denver Mint employees posing for the camera behind bags of 1938-D Half Dollars stacked on a wheeled dolly awaiting removal to the bank! Wouldn't it have been something to buy one of those bags at face value! Mintage of 491,600 pieces makes this is the key issue among the mid-depression walking Liberty halves. While a fair number were saved in roll quantities at the time, the fact of the matter is this has the third lowest mintage of any date in the series. A brilliant and wholly frosty Gem, its luster competes with the sharp design details for your attention (PCGS # 6605) .
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,100.

Realized $1,438
