Lot 216

1803 S-248 R4 "Mumps" Obverse with Doubled Fraction Bar PCGS graded XF40. Slightly glossy chocolate brown and steel with traces of lighter brown toning in a few of the protected areas. No spots or stains. The only marks are a very faint hairline scratch in the field left of the portrait and a small, shallow planchet delamination at the leaf tips under the F in OF. Sharply struck EDS, Breen state I. The reverse is uncracked and the minor bulge off the bust tip has not formed. The "Mumps" lump at the throat is strong and the doubled fraction bar feature is sharp. Our grade is VF30, at the lower end of the condition census for this scarce variety. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.

Realized $2,291
