1802 S-229 R2+ VF30. Glossy medium chocolate brown and olive with smooth, attractive surfaces. Just a few trivial marks from flawless, the notable ones being a small patch of tiny, barely visible ticks in the field close above the bust, a small rim nick at the T in UNITED, and a barely visible rim bruise at the second T in STATES. MDS, Breen state V. A pair of die cracks show at ERTY and there is a fine die crack through the top of TES in STATES. The obverse of this cent is plated in the Newcomb book on the cents of 1801-1803. Called VF30 and tied for CC#11 in the Bland census. Noyes says VF35 net VF25 and tied for CC#13, his photo #25030. Removed from an NGC slab graded AU50 (NGC label #508784-001 included, and it shows the attribution and Rasmussen provenance). Comes with an impressive provenance.
