Lot 206

1847 N-18 R5 Repunched Date with Large 7 over Medium 7 F15. Ten points sharper but the obverse is covered with light nicks, none distracting but too many for the sharpness grade. A tiny rim bruise over the second S in STATES is the only notable mark. Glossy dark reddish chocolate brown with extremely fine porosity covering the obverse. This roughness is visible only with the aid of a good glass and it is effectively hidden by the glossy patina. No verdigris. Extremely rare late die state, die state c, with clear rim cud breaks from below the 1 in the date clockwise to star 2. The date repunching is clear, including the so-called "Large 7 over Medium 7" feature. CC#2 of only 6 known in this die state, and the cuds are weak on several of those pieces. This is the Grellman plate coin for his 2001 edition of the late date cent book. Noyes photo #30188. DWH #3231.
Estimated Value $100-UP.
Ex Chris McCawley 4/91-Bob Grellman 7/25/06.
