Lot 2044

1892-S Morgan Dollar. MS-60 Plus Prooflike. A few minor hairlines. Nice white example. With the exception of the faint hairlines and a thin line across the lower part of Liberty's face, this is one heck of an 1892-S silver dollar. If you say the word "flashy" to yourself that is what this charmer brings to mind. For the coin has what it takes to please just about every fancier of rare dates: needle-sharp relief on the hair and especially a bold frosted white eagle; sleek mirrors that are so deep you could pluck your eyebrows in them, so to speak. The rarity of 1892-S in Mint State quality is legendary. Where did they all disappear to? Were many taken from Treasury vaults and melted in 1918 along with the 200+ million other silver dollars that met the same fate? We'll never know, but 1892-S stands as a landmark offering in this condition. Bear that in mind when bidding.
Estimated Value $10,000 - 15,000.
The Kazpar Collection. Previously, Jack Lee Collection.

Realized $31,050
