Russia. Elizabeth I (1709-1762). Daughter of Peter the Great. She gained the throne by overthrowing the infant Ivan VI and his regent in a bloodless revolution, aided by the imperial guards. She sought to rid Russia of German influence and sided against Frederick II of Prussia in the Seven Years War. During her reign, the nobility became more powerful, and the University of Moscow and the Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg were founded.

Imperial Decree Signed as Czarina of Russia, March 2, 1737, Saint Petersburg, 1 page, 12¼ x 8 in. In Russian, to the Patrimonial Chancery, commanding that her confessor, the priest Feodor Yakovlev, be paid his salary of 120 roubles, as well as supplies of rye flour, oats, and hay for his horses. Minor foxing, else fine. With translation.
