1872-S Liberty Seated Dollar. PCGS graded AU-53 PQ. An seriously important coin due to its status as the only collectible San Francisco issued With Motto Seated Liberty dollar! Since most of us cannot realistically expect to acquire an 1870-S and an 1873-S is out of the question, we are left with the 1872-S as our only option. Out of the 9,000 coins struck in 1872 at San Francisco, survivors are rare in AU and mint state. Only a handful of uncirculated examples exist, none at the gem level and a choice AU example is the best value with regards to price point at today's levels.

The present example is untoned, white and lustrous. Rich and satiny luster surrounds Liberty and the only seriously noticeable mark is a scratch right of stars 5 and 6. The strike is strong and even all the stars display full detail. While housed in a PCGS AU-53 holder, this specimen should easily be considered a choice AU and seriously pursued as such. A great opportunity to get a pleasing and undervalued significant type coin! PCGS has graded 7 in AU-53 with only 18 finer (PCGS # 6970) .
Estimated Value $2,800 - 3,200.
