Lot 1558

1921 Liberty Walking Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64. Nice original toning. A confidently struck Gem that whose visual display is improved by deep brown and "old silver" toning over the satiny luster. Although this date is normally found sharp, this coin in particular is even sharper, with boldness on Liberty's head and hand. One of the key issues in the series, since before the second World War 1921 dated half dollars were in strong demand as each mint's limited mintage fell during the short interlude between the two major 20th century wars; production was not needed, so mintage declined. Of course, 1921 is often regarded as a major irritant for date collectors since finding just the right coin requires persistence more than money, unlike commoner walking Liberty half dollar dates. This handsome toned specimen should find ready collectors who appreciate the original color, strong luster and extra-choice surfaces. Scarce so well preserved, and difficult to obtain finer than the present MS64. Pop 89; 61 in 65; 3 in 66. (PCGS # 6583) .
Estimated Value $9,000 - 9,500.
