Lot 144

1848 N-12 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous mint red fading to chocolate brown and olive, at least 20% of the mint color remaining, mostly on the reverse. The toning on the obverse has a subtle hint of woodgrained appearance. The only marks are a small vertical nick at the dentil roots right of star 13 and a tiny swipe of darker toning between two dentils over the right edge of the E in UNITED. M-LDS, die state b. Some of the early die lines at MERIC are still visible, but they are dull. A very nice cent. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#8 in the Grellman census. Noyes photo #30095. The attribution and Iskra provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 1 finer in 65 for the variety at PCGS. Estimated Value $500-UP

Ex J. R. Grellman Collection 2/1/2012-Fred Iskra Collection (includes the Grellman collection envelope).
