1859 Pattern Half Dollar. Copper, reeded edge. . J-238. . P-294. NGC graded Proof 63 Brown Rarity 5. Mahogany brown. Longacre's attractive Liberty that was proposed for a new half dollar features the allegorical female crowned with a wreath of oak and vine leaves; a ribbon inscribed LIBERTY curves around the neck. The reverse uses Longacre's "cereal wreath" composed of cotton, tobacco, sugar cane, corn, wheat and oak leaves. Pop 4; 4 finer, 1 in 64, 1 in 65, 2 in 66 (PCGS # 11968) .
