Lot 1425

1836 Pattern Dollar. Silver, plain edge. . J-60. . P-65. PCGS graded Proof 55. Well struck with nice even grey toning. A small mark in the field near the elbow. Razor-sharp feathers on the eagle. Restrike. From the standpoint of Gobrecht dollars issued for circulation, the 1836 with C. GOBRECHT F. on the base, with plain edge, and with starry reverse field (Judd-60), is a prime candidate for inclusion in any set of regular silver dollars. The design is first-class, indeed genuinely stunning in its beauty; the artistry an immeasurable improvement over prior U.S. coin designs. Pop 10; 72 finer (PCGS # 11227) .
Estimated Value $18,000 - 20,000.
