Lot 1301

1857 $20 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-62. This is a very special 1857 double eagle and not the commonly seen S-mint issue from the S.S. Central America hoard. The strike deserves an A-rating, since all devices were struck with such force and determination by the dies that elements show with razor-edge detail. Furthermore, the centers have warm golden orange patina expanding outwards to the same balanced color and freshness all the way to the edge of the rim. A well struck MS62 that has imposing luster and excellent "eye appeal" surfaces. Pop 14; 3 in 63. None finer by PCGS. (PCGS # 8920) .
Estimated Value $8,000 - 8,500.

Realized $10,350
