Lot 1194

1849-D. NGC AU Details, improperly cleaned. Well struck and a rather nice looking coin despite an old cleaning. Only 10,945 struck. Following several years of relatively high production (in the context of the Dahlonega Mint), the quantities for the 1849-D quarter eagle were more modest. Three die pairs were on hand in Dahlonega, but how many die varieties exist has not been researched. As a class, 1849-D $2.50 pieces are elusive in all grades (PCGS # 7754) .
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,100.
The William H & Beuelaress K. Helem Collection.

Realized $1,725
