1883 Hawaiian Quarter Dollar. NGC graded MS-65. Mostly untoned and well struck. The surfaces are bright silver in color, and quite lustrous on this beautiful Gem BU. Need we remind bidders that a weak impression was sometimes left by the rebound of the dies that struck Kalakaua quarter dollars of Hawaii. The beard was a high point on the coin and rarely finely detailed; however, in the present case, the opposite is true, the coin shows outstanding detail on Kalakaua's hair, his ear and mutton-chops, plus a clear, bold strike on the reverse.
