Lot 11

1794 C-1a R3 Large Edge Letters Basal State-1. Possibly struck over a TALBOT ALLUM & LEE Cent; edge letters blundered. A curious piece. The details are mostly sharper but this piece suffered some serious damage. The date is gone but the portrait is nearly complete and LIBERTY is clear. About 20% of the reverse devices remain visible. Glossy chocolate and olive brown. There is some clear raised design on the upper part of the reverse that appears to be from the rigging on a TAL cent, but it may have been imparted while the piece was being damaged. But what is certain is that the edge letters are blundered reading "TWO HUNDRED A DOLLAR" and the reverse is rotated 35 degrees CCW. An interesting piece that should be inspected.
Estimated Value $100-UP.
Ex unnamed bourse dealer 10/18/1980.
