Lot 1084

1847 N-6 R1 PCGS graded MS63 Red & Brown. Lustrous mint red fading to steel and light olive brown. Half the original mint color remains, mostly on the obverse. Held back from a higher grade by some small spots on the lower obverse, the largest of these just right of the date. The reverse is flawless. E-MDS, die state b. The fine repunching left of the base of the 4 is gone but the die line down from the dentils over the right edge of star 6 remains sharp. Our grade is consistent with the slab grade. Tied for CC#1 honors in the Grellman census. Noyes photo #30016. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Pop 1; 1 finer in 64RB.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
Ex J. R. Frankenfield, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 2/17/01:1377.
