Lot 108

1845 N-11 R3+ MS60. Glossy steel brown with 25% of the mint red remaining, mostly on the reverse. Would grade a couple points higher but there are many tiny nicks scattered about the obverse, strongest a vertical nick just right of the nostril. A spot of darker toning shows on the tip of the wreath stem. MDS, die state a late. Traces of the fine die lines down to left at ENT and over ER in AMERICA are still visible. The rim cud break at stars 3-4 is very narrow thanks to a slight shift in obverse die alignment to K-3. Tied for CC#6 in the Grellman census. DWH #2039.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
Ex J. R. Grellman-R. S. Brown, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 6/2/2002:227.
