Lot 996

1846 N-8 R1. NGC graded MS-66 Red & Brown. Beautiful lustrous mint red mellowing to bluish steel brown and olive. A third of the red remains visible on the obverse and more than half on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and virtually flawless. Finding an identifying mark or two presents quite a challenge. A hint of slightly darker toning at the 84 and a microscopic speck of darker toning centered above the O in ONE are the best I can find, and they are wholly insignificant. MDS, die state b. The die lines in the field at the throat are dull and weak but still visible. Our grade is MS65, CC#1 by a small margin in the Grellman census.
Estimated Value $800-UP.
