Lot 947

1814 S-295 R1 Plain 4 Turban Head VF35. Choice glossy medium chocolate brown with frosty lighter steel brown toning in protected areas. A beautiful cent, nearly flawless. A dull rim nick off the bust tip is the only notable defect. E-MDS. The reverse is bulged outward in a manner that is consistent with a piece that got stuck in the die and became a reverse brockage maker when a new blank planchet was inserted into the press. Normally you can find some minor doubling on the obverse from the extra strike(s), but there is none on this piece. Apparently it did not shift at all between the impressions on the obverse. A neat cent.
Estimated Value $600-UP.

Realized $1,725
