Lot 887

1802 S-225 R3 VG10. Ten points sharper where the designs were properly struck up but there is significant weakness along the left side of the obverse and lower left part of the reverse. It appears the dies were not in proper axial alignment (die faces not parallel). Whatever the reason, the weak areas show numerous small contact marks, perhaps mixed with pre-striking planchet marks that didn't get pressed out during the strike. Glossy chocolate brown with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. Some crud in protected areas. E-MDS, Breen state II, showing strong die clashmarks under the date and bust tip.
Estimated Value $100-UP.

Realized $115
