Lot 873

1800 S-212 R3 F15. Slightly sharper but lightly cleaned and nicely retoned glossy chocolate brown with lighter frosty steel brown in protected areas. The planchet is smooth and void of contact marks, but there are some obvious (and certainly eye-catching) planchet laminations on the obverse. These mint-made laminations have darker olive toning in the narrow voids, and this makes them stick out relative to the choice chocolate toning that covers everything else. E-MDS, Breen state II. An attractive example of this type of mint error.
Estimated Value $250-UP.
Ex Michael Arconti, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 7/27/03:46.
