Lot 85

1844 N-6 R3 MS60. Frosty light bluish steel with 20% slightly faded underlying mint red, mostly on the obverse. There are a couple light contact marks on the neck, a speck of carbon on the left point of star 8, and a small carbon spot on the left side of the M in AMERICA. E-MDS, die state b, with fine die cracks through the tops of MER and from the wreath to the base of that R. A bit softly struck on the coronet tip, hair over the ear, and on the curls at the shoulder, as usual. A variety that is very tough to find in mint state. Tied for CC#4 in the Grellman census. DWH #2034.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
