Lot 83

1797 C-3a R3 Low Head with Plain Edge F12. A few points sharper but there are extremely tiny ticks scattered over both sides, none visible without the aid of a good glass. No corrosion or verdigris, and this piece offers excellent eye appeal for the grade. Rather glossy medium brown. Nicely struck MDS, Manley state 1.0 late. The "tongue" break from the chin is clear and the dull crack or wave from the tongue to the dentils is clear. This is the Manley plate coin for his state 1.0 and Breen's plate coin for his state III. An attractive example of the popular Low Head type. Weight 84.7 grains.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
Ex Ron Guth 12/19/1981-Jack Robinson, Superior 1/29/1989:1889 (lot ticket included).
