Lot 8

1840 N-7 R2 Large Date MS62. Lustrous bluish steel brown and chocolate with traces of slightly faded mint red in protected areas, mostly on the obverse. The only marks are a tiny planchet flake in the field under star 11, as struck, a small nick hidden in the middle curl on the neck, and a light horizontal nick on the right side of the second S in STATES. M-LDS, die state c. The extension up from the top of the 4 is weak and blurry, but die centering has eliminated any chance to see rim cud breaks under the date. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS65BN (NGC label included). An attractive cent, CC#3 for the variety with only 4 confirmed mint state examples in the Grellman census. DWH #2682.
Estimated Value $600-UP.
Ex Tom Reynolds-McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 5/29/05:1682.
