Lot 79

1844 N-3 R2 Repunched 18 MS63. Mint red fading to bluish steel brown; about 15% of the red remains on the obverse while at least half the original red remains on the reverse. The only defect is a small spot of very light carbon in the field left of star 11. Nicely struck LDS, die state e, with a large rim cud break at stars 9-11. The coronet above LIB is fully impressed and the hair at the ear is nearly complete, which is well above average for this variety. CC#2 of the variety and only a shade behind the finest known example. DWH #2683.
Estimated Value $800-UP.
