Lot 749

1854 N-2 R1. MS-62. Frosty light olive and bluish steel with 25% of the planchet showing faded mint red, mostly on the obverse. No spots or stains. The notable marks are a small, curved struck-through line from the right side of star 6 and a shallow planchet flake on the rim over the I in AMERICA, both defects as struck. Nicely struck EDS, die state a. The N-2 die variety is nearly always poorly struck, especially at the coronet over LIB. This piece is nearly fully struck, one of the best seen, showing only minor weakness on the coronet tip. Tied for CC#5. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS64RB (NGC label included).
Estimated Value $300-UP.
