Lot 732

1853 N-14 R3. MS-60. Repunched 1. Frosty light chocolate and bluish steel with peeps of faded mint color showing through on the obverse. Satiny mint frost covers the planchet and this cent offers outstanding eye appeal for the grade. Just a few light contact marks from choice, including a few small nicks on the bust and a more-visible one in the field under the end of the chin. LDS, die state e, with clear rim cud breaks from star 10 down to star 13. The final cud breaks are clearer on this example than on any other seen by this cataloger. The repunching under the base of the 1 is gone. Tied for CC#9 overall for the die variety but CC#2 of the terminal die state. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS63 Brown (NGC label included).
Estimated Value $200-UP.
Ex Ace Coins 8/04-Phyllis Thompson.
