Lot 727

1856 N-22 R5 PCGS graded AU58. Attractive frosty light to medium brown. This cent has mint state eye appeal but there is a bit of friction on the highpoints and some light contact marks. The notable marks are a very light but relatively fresh pin scratch at the lower left point of star 11 and an older one from star 12 to star 13, plus a collection of tiny planchet flakes or chips on the rim over star 4. Sharply struck EDS with fine diagonal die finishing lines covering the obverse fields, strongest before the neck and face. Our grade is EF45+ sharpness net EF40 and tied for CC#6 in the Grellman census. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS61BN (NGC label #394924-004 included, and it shows the attribution). Estimate Value $400 - UP
