French Art Noveau Fan c. 1900. An unusual and rare "Zepher" French Clockwork Art Noveau fan. It is marked "Metropole, Monte Carlo," having been a fixture of this famous hotel. At 13" high, this unsually shaped piece could be carried from room to room.

Made of guilded brass showing some slight wear throughout, its base and stem are designed to resemble a Roman column.An intricate floral design is on the front of the main housing. A clockwork mechanism is wound for power; the fan is started and stopped with a small knob at the top of the housing.
