Lot 547

1848 N-5 R4+ PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Repunched Second 8. Lustrous light olive and bluish steel brown with 5-10% of the slightly faded mint color remaining. The only defects are a half dozen small spots of slightly darker toning on the obverse, including one near the dentils left of star 1, and a very light rim bruise at the rim cud off the tip of the wreath stem. Excellent eye appeal in spite of the minor spots, and the rim bruise is nearly invisible thanks to the rim cud. LDS, die state f, with several fine die cracks on the reverse plus the small rim cud already mentioned. Our grade is MS60. Tied for CC#5 overall but CC#2 of those known with the rim cud.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
