Lot 520

1860 Silver Three Cents. NGC graded Proof 68. Deep watery fields that reflect back wonderous colors at the top, more gray at the bottom on the obverse. Similar on the reverse, with the top more of a gray tone with the lower portions deep blue and gray. A glass will scarcely locate any hairlines or handling evidence, and this one is truly superb. As to rarity, NGC has graded only one coin this high, this coin, and the next grade down is PF-66, with 2 specimens seen. PCGS hasn't graded any higher than PR-65! That makes this little coin pretty much for certain the Finest Known, but two points! Perhaps there are some others out there that haven't been graded, but we doubt there are any better than the coin on offer here today. Boldly struck save for the center of the tiny branch on the reverse, which is weak at the center. In NGC holder #1600240-042.
Estimated Value $10,000-UP.

Realized $14,375
