Lot 4868

1926-S $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-65. Lovely gold and orange to pale rose-gold toning on both sides. There is a single single small mark that can be used as an identifier three sun rays to the left of the torch-end. An exemplary specimen! One whose rich frosty golden luster pulsates with an inner energy like atomic fission. At best, it is not easy to find such luster on a branch mint $20 struck in the Roaring Twenties. Not only is 1926-S scarce in lower Mint State grades, but it stands out forcefully as a Gem. So too crisp definition on the main devices counts for a lot. And what we find here is mathematically exact standards seen in the sharp features of the main devices and complete stars (46 of them) around the obverse inner rim. Pop 26; 2 finer in 66 (PCGS # 9185) .
Estimated Value $25,000 - 27,000.
Ex: Dr. Hesselgesser Collection.
