Great Britain. Gold Quarter Angel, ND. S.2528; Fr-208. Elizabeth I, 1558-1603. Fourth issue. Mint mark sword. St. Michael standing slaying the mythical dragon. Reverse: Ship bearing shield and cross, E and rose at sides.
Struck in 1582, six years before the appearance of the Spanish Armada and five years before the execution of Mary Queen of Scots, this tiny but extremely rare coin has great detail and a superb portrait of St. Michael. probably considerably rarer than the larger Angel and Half Angel coins. NGC graded AU-50.
