Apollo 11, 1969, FLOWN Heatshield Fragment (.5x.25") This small fragment was salvaged and mounted by a North American employee after the flight. He presented it to a friend who was a NASA Quality Engineer at JSC in Houston. The mount, which we have not seen before consists of a Command Module shaped clear Lucite cone with the Apollo 11 flight insignia and the sample encased inside (obviously homemade). This is, in turn mounted on a 8" wooden base with a 2.5" metal descriptive plate attached. We haven't seen this configuration for a flown heat shield fragment before. A copy of a notarized COA from the consignor's father (the original recipient of the piece) is included. Striking and rare.
Estimated Value $750 - 1,000.

Realized $228
