Lot 4267

1936 Norfolk Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-68. Rainbow toning hugs the borders, more-so the obverse. A fabulous grade and deservedly so!

Obverse with the Norfolk, Virginia city seal; the reverse depicts an ornate Royal Mace, presented to the Borough of Norfolk in 1753 by Lieutenant Governor Robert Dinwiddie. William Marks Simpson and his wife Marjorie Emory Simpson made the designs. Although Congress authorized 25,000 to be struck at Philadelphia, only 16,923 were ever sold (at $1.50 each). The surplus was returned to the mint for melting. Pop 141; none finer (PCGS # 9337) .
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,400.
Accompanied by the original information holder.
