Austria. Ducat, 1584. Fr-54. 3.47 grams. 20.83 mm. Klagenfurt (Carinthia) mint. Archduke Karl, 1564-1590. Armored figure of ruler standing with crown breaking legend at top and feet and sword at the bottom. Leg: CAROLUS.DEI.G. -ARCHI.DUX. Reverse: Crowned shield. Leg: AUSTRIAE .ET.CARINTHIAE.ZC.84. Boldly struck with lovely original mint fresh luster. NGC graded MS-64.

Archduke Karl was the younger brother of of Emperor Maximilian. He was given the Duchy of Styria to rule. All his coins were minted at Graz or Klagenfurt. It is most unusual to find one of these scarce ducats this choice.
