Lot 39

1842 N-6 R1 MS62. Attractive frosty light steel brown with a trace of mint red on the obverse, at least 5% of the red remaining on the reverse. Covered with attractive satiny mint luster. There is an extremely faint hairline scuff over star 2, a tiny rim nick at star 6, and a dull nick under the tip of the wreath ribbon. Excellent eye appeal in spite of the minor marks. LDS, die state d (Reiver’s old Newcomb #10). The lumps on the obverse are gone and there is a new, very tiny lump in the field right of the base of E in ONE. Excellent eye appeal for the grade. Tied for CC#8 in the Grellman census. DWH #2020.
Estimated Value $600-UP.
Ex McCawley & Grellman Auctions 1/8/94:452-R. S. Brown, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 6/2/2002:98.
