Russia. Alexander I, 1801-25. Undated, ca 1815, AE Medal, 48.65mm, signed "I.M." Honoring Count Matvei Ivanovich Platoff, Hetman of Cossacks and a Russian commander in the Napoleonic wars. He took part in the campaigns of 1805-7, hounding the French during their retreat from Moscow in 1812, and again after their defeat at Leipzig 1813. He was in command at the victory of Altenburg in 1813, and was made a count for his valuable wartime services. Diakov-Unlisted. Bust left/Four line latin inscription, "Acri Militia/Vexavit Gallos/Eques Metuendus/Hasta". Extremely Fine, numbered on the edge in white ink "M10894".
