Lot 381

1856 N-7 R2 Upright 5 PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown. Lustrous mint red fading to light bluish steel brown and chocolate with 25% of the red remaining, mostly on the reverse. The fields are satiny and the eye appeal of this cent is outstanding. The only defects are a faint hairline scratch on the lower portion of the neck, a tiny planchet flake in the field off the tip of the nose (as struck), and a couple tiny struck-through lines on the chin (also as struck). M-LDS, die state c. The fine die crack from the bust tip toward star 1 is clear. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#3 behind a pair of slightly finer examples in the Grellman census. The attribution and Iskra provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; none finer for the variety at PCGS. Estimated Value $850-UP
