Lancaster, Burt. Boldly signed in black felt tip pen. (1913-1994) Film actor. A former circus acrobat, he performed in army shows before making his name in Hollywood through a number of tough-guy roles. He was able to showcase his dramatic abilities in From Here to Eternity (1953), Elmer Gantry (1960, Oscar) and Birdman of Alcatraz(1962).
Typed Letter Signed. One page, Octavo, on personal stationery with transmittal envelope (post-marked November 21, 1983, Los Angeles, CA) Fold creases, but clean. In full:
"Dear Mr. and Mrs. Painter: / Thank you from the bottom of my "New Heart for your note of concern. I'm pleased to tell you that the operation went quite well and the doctors are very pleased with my progress. I've been home from the hospital since Labor Day and while I'm still recuperating, I'm felling better all the time. In fact, I'm now walking four miles a day. I should be back at work in the very near future. / Again, I thank you for your encouragement. I know that all the letters I've received, like yours, have gone a long way to helping me recover. / Sincerely, / Burt Lancaster".
