Claudius, 41-54 AD. AR Cistophoric Tetradrachm (11.45 g), Ephesus, struck 41-42 AD. Rare in this grade! Bare head of Claudius left. Reverse: Distyle temple with two figures within; in pediment, ROM ET AVG; COM - ASI flanking. RPS 2221; RIC 118; BMCRE 228; C. 3. Great strike, with splendid portrait and superbly detailed reverse. Finely centered on choice flan. Lightly toned and lustrous. Without a doubt, the finest Claudian tetradrachm we have auctioned in many years. Choice Extremely Fine.
