Lot 3540

Bar Kochba Revolt, 132-135 AD. AR Sela-Tetradrachm (14.98 g), Year 2, struck 133/134 AD. . Hen-689. Rare. Facade of Temple, Ark within; Hebrew at sides, star above. Reverse: Lulav, with etrog to left; Hebrew around ("Year two of the freedom of Israel"). Hendin 689; Mild. 45 (8 examples cited). On ample flan of good metal, with slight iridescent toning. Undertype a Tyrian tetradrachm with Trajan and Melkaart devices, their respective profiles boldly evident in the coin's fields -- with Trajan's ironically forming a support for the Ark! Selas with double portraits clearly seen are rare and are eagerly sought after. Extremely Fine.
Estimated Value $2,500 - 2,750.

Realized $3,000
