Hardy, Oliver. A wonderful, comically peevish letter about Hardy's life in England. With a 12mo addressed and postmarked envelope, slightly torn along the fold where it has been opened. Letter is Very Fine. American Comedian, 1892 - 1957. The corpulent half of the famous comedy team Laurel and Hardy, known for their contrasting personalities, general clumsiness, and disastous predicaments.
Autograph Letter Signed. Six pages, Octavo, on Royal Station Hotel letterhead, London & North Eastern Railway logo, Hull, England, July 12, 1947. Rich, plaintive letter, signed "Oliver," from a homesick Oliver Hardy living abroad in England where he is on tour. Hardy writes about his homesickness, his tour, English food, his wife's illness, and the condition of enforced abstinence from Bourbon:
"…It is impossible to get Bourbon over here so have been drinking Scotch and you know how I dislike it. It is 50 per cent watered and you can drink a quart and not get a kick. It sells for $15.00 a bottle over here, all of the good stuff is sent to America. The Gin is used by the people for heat, thats why it is so scarce …"
