Maximianus, AD 286-305. Gold Aureus (5.21 g) minted at Rome after abdication, AD 306-307. Laureate head right of Maximianus. Reverse: Concordia clasping hands with Hercules. RIC VI, 134 [as R3]; Calicó 4609 (same dies); C. 42. Lightly burnished with some luster remaining, minted in high relief. Extremely Fine.

In May of 305 both Maximianus and Diocletian resigned their senior posts as emperors, abdicating on the 20th anniversary of Maximianus' reign. Special coinage was dedicated, using the title "The Most Happy Senior Emperors." While his abdication after this first reign was completed, he nevertheless was again elevated to emperorship.
