Great Britain. Pattern Florin, 1848. ESC-886. Plain edge. Obverse: Crowned portrait of Victoria facing left, with hair braided and ornate gothic-style bodice VICTORIA REGINA 1848. The words DEI GRATIA omitted from the obverse legend, prompting the nickname 'Godless' Florin. Reverse: Crowned cruciform shields and legend ONE FLORIN - ONE TENTH OF A POUND. Choice mint state with wisps of golden blue toning across the detailed Gothic bust. An exceptionally beautiful example of this 160 year old pattern which truly began the British Florin series. NGC graded Proof 64.
