Dempsey, Jack (1895-1983) World Heavyweight Champion, nickname the Manassa Mauler. Defeated Jess Willard in 1919, to win the world heavyweight title which he held until 1926 when he lost to Gene Tunney. After fighting in numerous exhibitions, he retired from boxing in1940 and went onto become a successful restaurateur in NYC.
