Karia, Unceratin Dynasts, c. 510-490 BC. AR Tetrobol (2.02 g). Griffin head facing left. Reverse: Stellate pattern in latticed frame set diagonally within incuse square. SNG Kayhan 810; SNG Deutschland (Part 5) 3307; "Asyut Hoard" 687. Rosen 619. Superb Extremely Fine.

According to Price and Waggoner (The "Asyut Hoard", p.92), these fractions have recently been attributed to an uncertain mint in Karia, possibly Syangela under the authority of a dynast by the name of Pigres. This example may be the earlier of the two.
