Kingdom of Macedon. Alexander III, the Great, 336-323 BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.93 g) minted posthumously at Babylon, c. 317-311 BC. Head right of Herakles, wearing lion's skin headdress. Reverse: Zeus enthroned left, holding eagle and scepter; in left field, monogram within wreath; under throne, "H". Price 3704; M. 712. Struck in high relief, of fine style; evenly toned in medium grey. Superb Extremely Fine.
Possibly struck by Antigonos while ruling Babylon, 317-311 BC. One of the most heroic emissions of Alexander's eastern empire.
